She's Gone...

October 26, 2008  Kemah, TX  USA

OK...It FINALLY happened! Prime Time has been sold. A buyer from Europe had been "looking at" Prime Time on YachtWorld for over a year...flew over to see her in person...and made a VERY good offer for her. I can't even begin to tell you how FAST I accepted! Owning and maintaining a yacht like Prime Time in today's economic climate is NOT for the faint of heart...

Anyone and everyone who has read my blog knows how much I loved this boat. Prime Time was...and will continue to be...just an AWESOME boat! Anneke and I had some great times living aboard and cruising. We met some of the most fantastic people in places most only dream about. So why sell her?  I'll be honest with you...

Sometimes going just 10 knots an hour drove me crazy!

At first it was OK...just OK. Most of the time it's OK...but not always. If weather permits, running offshore for DAYS can get you where you're going...but at a cost. I HATE overnighters...just hate them! Once in a while is OK...but not multiple days. Having a MAXIMUM daily range of 240 nautical miles (10 knots X 24 hours) SUCKS. It's not even JUST the overnight passages. Why should it take a day to get back to Nassau from Compass Cay? Why should going from Nassau to the West End on Grand Bahama require an overnight passage? Eleven days from Kemah to the West Coast of Florida was AGONAL! If the weather is good...seas are reasonable...who cares if it takes a day. But...if you're in a hurry...don't go on a 10 knot max boat. I used to consider myself a "journey" person. No...not THAT Journey (Steve Parry singing "Don't Stop Believing" - Turn UP the volume!) The sad truth of the matter is that I'm more of a "destination" guy. MOST of the time when I'm headed somewhere...I want to get there! Not tomorrow...not even TOO much later today...

Please don't think that I'm doggin' Selene Ocean Trawlers. These Selene's are GREAT boats. They just aren't the PERFECT boat for me. I probably have ONE more big boat in me. I still want to experience some of those thrills I had in the Bahamas again. I've been looking for something new for a while now. I even have a short list. Living aboard and cruising on Prime Time allowed me to know EXACTLY what I want/need/"hafta have" in a boat. She WILL...without a doubt...go faster than 10 knots...

OK...I'm keeping "keepin on" with my Cruising Log. If you're ONLY interested in following traditional cruising logs...sorry for now. For the first time...in a LONG time...I'm boat less. You know what? It doesn't feel too bad at all...SEF
